The exhibition is a showcase of positive exemplars of thoughtful and innovative design for birth spaces and places.
Visitors can explore how thoughtful design—both physical and ephemeral—can support salutogenic birth and positive birth experiences. The exhibition will feature existing and unbuilt design projects, offering fresh perspectives and innovative ideas for future birth environments.
This curated show will highlight positive exemplar Case Studies developed with support from SSHRC, The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The research project Transformational Change for Birth Environment Design, has led to this colloquium, exhibition and a knowledge mobilization web resource.
The organizers invite submissions of exceptional and thought-provoking design work - these could include furniture and equipment, lighting, and spatial elements of birth spaces, ranging from birth rooms to entire complexes.
A web resource for architects and designers will be launched at the exhibition opening. It features positive exemplar case studies, utilizing images from on-site tours and architects/designers, and interviews w/ architects, midwives, medical staff, doctors, mothers and their partners/supporters.
The exhibition will provide a rich understanding of how environment shapes birth experience and health/wellbeing.
Join us in recognizing and celebrating the potential of architecture and design to create environments that support the physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of women, infants, families, and communities worldwide.
Whether you're a practicing professional, student, or healthcare professional, the organizers invite you to be part of a global movement dedicated to transforming birth environments through informed and thoughtful design.
